Fridays are best days.

Not only is it the start to the weekend, but it is like a weekly Christmas morning when we get to unwrap all the latest albums from our favorite artists. This week we celebrate the volcanic return of some grunge gods, a sleek and sexy slice of indie rock, and some snacks for stans of the biggest boy band phenomenon in the world. These are the highlights of this week’s New Music Friday.

Alice In Chains – Rainer Fog

The sixth studio album from Alice In Chains is a celebration of Seattle, and very much a fine-tuning of their signature sound. Now over a decade into their second life with singer William DuVall, the band still specializes in driving guitars and muscular blues riffs courtesy of Jerry Cantrell. Many of the tracks were recorded in and around their hometown of Seattle, and it shows a tribute to the area and the friends that have made music such an important export from the city. There’s no clearer nod to that than the name Rainer Fog, which comes from the volcanic Mount Rainer roughly sixty miles away from Seattle.

You can hear Alice In Chains talk more about the album in our exclusive interview here, and check out their song “Never Fade” below.

Interpol – Marauder

There is something haunting and vulnerable about the voice of Paul Banks, which is still the main attraction for Interpol and their new album Marauder. That seductive sound against angular guitars drives the band’s first album in four years. Banks explains to Billboard, “This record is where I feel touching on real things that have happened to me are exciting and evocative to write about.”

Check out the video for lead-off song “If You Really Love Nothing”, in which actress Kristen Stewart tempts actor Finn Wittrock as the embodiment of vices during an evening out.

BTS – Love Yourself: Answer

The K-Pop takeover continues, picking up mainstream music stars along the way. BTS released the third part of their Love Yourself trilogy today, thrilling fans and packing in at least one surprise. Love Yourself: Answer features some new and some previously released tracks, but the lead single “IDOL” is the one causing a tweet storm. An alternate version of “IDOL” appears on the album with a guest verse from Queen MC Nicki Minaj. The artist raps about Korea, Gucci, and John Mayer of all things. The guest spot should be enough to wake another segment of the population up to the phenomenon of BTS. Their last album became the first ever number one album from a Korean act.

You can check out the “IDOL” edition featuring Nick Minaj below.

Also out this week are new albums from Blood Orange, the Plain White T’s, and the dance duo Justice.
