How to Watch Pats vs. Colts: NFL Thursday Night Football

October 4, 2018

Four days later and we are still questioning the decision by Colts head coach Frank Reich in overtime to go for it on 4th down and essentially hand the Texans the win when they did not convert. If they didn’t go for it, the game likely would have ended in a tie. The loss dropped the Colts to 1-3. On the other side, the Patriots shut everyone up with a 38-7 beatdown of the previously unbeaten Dolphins. After losing two straight, the Pats needed a convincing win to not only silence the critics but to even their record at 2-2. This Thursday night game could be another blowout win for New England.

The Colts injury report is long, and it’s not looking good for them to even compete in Foxborough. They will be without star receiver T.Y. Hilton, running back Marlon Mack, and tight end Jack Doyle. Their top receivers Thursday are going to be Ryan Grant and Chester Rogers. They also won’t have much of a running game either. Even against a suspect Pats defense, Andrew Luck is going to have a difficult time putting the ball in the end zone with the guys he has on a short week. Luck is coming off a game where he had to throw the ball a career-high 62 times. At this rate, his arm is going to be fatigued coming off the shoulder injury with no running game with the entire offense on that shoulder. It’s hard to see him hold up all season, and if he does, he’s not going to be that effective. The front office didn’t exactly give him much to work with either. This team badly lacks talent offensively.

The Patriots showed the world they are back with an easy win over the previously 3-0 Dolphins. That game was over in the first half. They saw Josh Gordon play nicely in his Patriots debut, and now they get one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets back on the field in Julian Edelman. This could be the week we see the Pats continue to get in a rhythm. Brady now has Gordon, Edelman, and Chris Hogan on the outside at his disposal, and Rob Gronkowski up the middle. Gronk is dealing with an ankle injury and because of the short week, he might not play. The Patriots don’t need him this week, so it makes sense to sit him. This game is going to be ugly and could also be over at the half. With all the Colts injuries, the Patriots getting reinforcements, and being at home, this would end up being a monster upset if the Colts find some way to win. This team could really start to go on a bit of a winning streak here and get themselves atop the AFC East where they are accustomed to being. It starts with beating teams they should like the Colts on Thursday night in primetime.
